Again, determined to expand the development of education in its mandate area, the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Monday September 14, 2020, distributed 278 desks to

different schools in Udu Local Government Area of the State.


The member representing Udu constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Peter Okagbare Uviejitobor, assisted by Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP member representing Udu, Ughelli South, Uvwie and Urhobos of Warri South Local Government Areas on the Board of DESOPADEC, embarked on the distribution exercise.


The distribution which was done through DESOPADEC under the supervision of Hon Uviejitobor, had the following schools as beneficiaries: Otor-Udu Secondary School - 50 desks, Owhorokpokpor Primary School - 50 desks, Ukpiovwin Primary School - 50 desks, Ukpenrenren primary school -50 desks and Orhuwhorun High School- 28 desks.


Presenting the items to the schools, Hon Uviejitobor noted that the exercise was just the first phase and that more should be expected.


He then enjoined the management of the various schools to take it as their responsibility to secure the desks and put them to good use.


"Today is a special day. The basic responsibility of the House of Assembly members is to make laws and carry out oversight functions which includes a proper representation of the people.


The chairs, produced by DESOPADEC, for schools in Udu have been distributed to various schools in Udu State constituency to alleviate their suffering," he said.

In addition, he said, "DESOPADEC, as an agency put in place to fast track development which is exactly what we are doing today, is even further poised to do more in the educational sector. Obviously, the chairs are good and up to standard and are properly distributed. I thank DESOPADEC as a Commission, for carrying out this noble deed. I also thank His Excellency, Sen Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State for making it possible."



Also speaking, Olorogun Oyibode stated that the desire to carry out this distribution exercise was borne out of the fact that the State Governor during the inauguration of the Board, had directed that the bottom - top approach should be applied by the Board to ensure sustainable development in the oil producing Communities. He also implored the State House of Assembly which established the law governing DESOPADEC to perform the supervisory and oversight role towards ensuring that the people harvest the dividend of democracy.


Earlier, speaking on behalf of the schools and communities, Mrs Odiodio Justina, Acting Principal, Orhuwhorun High School, Comrade Moses Bekaren, President -General, Otor Udu Community, Mrs Florence Ekiugbo Onogagaren, Principal, Otor Udu Community Secondary School, and Comrade Samuel Gbalugo President-General, Ogbe-Udu Community had thanked His Excellency, Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Executive Governor of Delta State, the Board of DESOPADEC, Hon Chief Peter Okagbare Uviejitobor and Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP for the quick response to their duty in putting smiles on the faces of the students/pupils, stating that the era of sitting on the floor to learn is gone. He promised to put the furniture to judicious use.
