The Executive Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has commissioned the renovated administrative block, new Information Communication and Technology (ICT) centre, water scheme and twenty units of public toilets for male and female students at Hussey College, Warri constructed by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.

 Represented by the Managing Director/CEO of DESOPADEC, Olorogun Williams Makinde, FCA, PHD, at the event, Governor Okowa said

in spite of lean resources, government is working to ensure it delivers on its mandate to the people.

According to him, we are here to spread prosperity of Governor Okowa, noting that the surest way out of poverty is education hence DESOPADEC’s massive investment in education.

He appealed to the school management to put the completed projects to good use, stating that “We are completing all ongoing projects in DESOPADEC as a matter of policy”.



Also speaking at the event was the Executive Director, Projects, Pastor Philip Gbasin who recalled that Hussey College stood out among all schools in Warri during his days as a student.

Pastor Gbasin said the purpose of the renovation is to provide comfort and good learning environment for students and teachers, emphasizing that it is important that the school’s lost glory is restored and by Commissioning the projects today, the landscape will never remain the same again.

Delivering his welcome address at the event, the school principal, Mr Akra Mogbeyitsereje Sylvester said the building that is  being commissioned is a monument of the college that stands distinctly as an edifice that he has not seen in any other school in the country.


He applauded the efforts of DESOPADEC and the Governor and asked for provision of more facilities for the comfort of students and staff in the school.

Representatives of the Old Students Association also applauded the efforts of DESOPADEC while the Chief Inspector of Education, Warri South Local Government Area, Dr M. E. Emeshili noted that the Ministry of Basic Education was very delighted on hearing of the commissioning of the project as it is dear to their heart.

Present at the event includes, the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Bashorun Askiah Ogeh, Executive Director, Social Services, Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor, Executive Director, planning, Research and Statistics, Engr. Victor Oritsetimeyin Wood and member representing Itsekiri ethnic  nationality in the Board of  DESOPADEC, Chief Thomas Ereyitomi as well as other management staff of the Commission.
